Colossians 1:1
"Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God..."
I'm startled by how Paul identifies himself. Most often when someone asks how I became a priest I'll share about my seminary education, my experiences in youth ministry or my family upbringing. However I don't think I'd ever directly say...I became a Priest by the will of God. Paul, in this one little phrase underscores a significant truth of our faith.
We are not Christians, Disciples or Ministers by our own will. God has first made Himself known to us. How audacious that the creator of the cosmos allows Himself to be known to a particular being. Today practice seeing yourself as the recipient of God's presence. Practice being attentive to the reality that God first desires you. Take courage in knowing that God has willed you to be His.
