Psalm 81:11
I am the Lord, your God: hear my voice.
"I am the Lord, your God: hear my voice." My natural response is usually, "Lord, that is easier said than done." For me, it can be difficult to stop, take time, and listen to the Father's voice. I am an extrovert, which means that it is hard to enter into the silence and listen. I have a bad habit of filling up the silence with a lot of noise. I do this with my brother seminarians, with my friends, and also with God. The danger then becomes, shutting myself off from ever truly getting to know God.
For, it is when I fail to listen and I am doing all the talking, that I drown out the voice of God. I can never come to know the voice of God if I do not tune my ears and heart to His wavelength. Therefore, in order to do that, I need to first shut up. Then, and only then, can I expect to "hear His voice." The more I stop to listen to His voice, do my ears become attuned to his wavelength. The Lord God wants nothing more, than for us to "hear His voice." Why? That's a question to ask Him.
