Healing for Others

By Christian Galvan
It's so easy to get caught up in self-reflection in the spiritual life...

Mark 6:56

Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as touched it were healed.

It's so easy to get caught up in self-reflection in the spiritual life. On the one hand, personal prayer is precisely where we encounter the Risen Lord, who heals us from all our brokenness. Praise God for his immeasurable love and mercy! On the other hand, we sometimes forget to continuously surrender our brokenness to the God who heals. We dwell on it in prayer, which can often lead to self-condemnation and despair, even in the presence of our Savior.

It is this very presence of our Savior that moved the people in today's Gospel to seek healing not for themselves, but for others. The Gospel specifically says, "they laid the sick" so that "they might touch" and be healed. Today, let us approach the Savior surrendering what must be healed in our lives, confident in his ability to do so. Furthermore, let's avoid the temptation to stay inside of ourselves after our own healing. Instead, let's bring others into the presence of the Savior so that they too may experience his saving love poured out for the conversion of all hearts.
