He wants us to have our cake and eat it too.

By Fr. Chuck Dornquast
Despite my appearance, cake doesn't really get me salivating as much as other foods do...

And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.

Jn. 6: 39-40

Despite my appearance, cake doesn’t really get me salivating as much as other foods do. Should the expression be “you can’t have a plate full of ribs in front of you and at the same time eat a plate full of ribs” it would apply more aptly. Often times Christianity is viewed in this logic. You can’t have any fun now, you have to wait until after you die to have fun in heaven. But notice Jesus’ words in John’s gospel: “For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.” You and I are not offered eternal life in the future. We are provided with living eternal life now! And then we shall be raised on the last day. May we openly receive the bbq or cake which the Lord desires to give us and be grateful that He has invited us to eat it too.

Do I live a resurrected life?

Jesus, allow me to experience the gift of the resurrected in my life today and to settle for nothing less tomorrow.
