He Is HERE Can You See Him

By Israel A Hernandez
In December of 2018, I went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land...

"Here, God lives among his people - (Rev. 21:3b) – Responsorial Psalm PS 84:3, 4, 5-6A AND 8A

In December of 2018, I went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Of all the places to pray, the Church of the Annunciation was one of the most powerful. In the lower level of the basilica is the original cave, which the Angel Gabriel appeared to Mary. The Altar there, has the words inscribed, "Verbum Caro Hic Factum Est." This translates, "And the Word HERE was made flesh." Think and process what I am saying. This is the space and place where the infinite became finite, the eternal entered time, God Himself became man! From this point on, the invisible was made visible. But then, as we all know the story, the Paschal Mystery happened. In other words, for many people, the visible became invisible once again.  What we were left with, were stories passed down from generation to generation, instilling faith.

However, God did not leave us, and He isn't invisible again. No, in fact, God lives on within each of us. Here, wherever here is for you, God lives among His people. He lives within your own heart, within your family, friends, and even enemies. However, He doesn't just live in His people, but He also lives in all of His creation. He lives within nature, technology, and we are simply surrounded by Him. Soak that in: "God lives among his people," in the HERE and NOW. Are we open enough to see Him, to see His beauty, His mercy, or His love?

Do you believe that God is HERE?

God, You are amongst Your people. Help me to see You daily, in the ordinary, in the extraordinary, in those whom I love, in those who hate me, in everyone, and in everything.
