Good Enough

By Deacon Drew Woodke
One of the biggest lies that the evil one will try to sow in our lives is that...

Rom 5: 20-21

Where sin increased, grace overflowed all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through justification for eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

One of the biggest lies that the evil one will try to sow in our lives is that we aren't good enough. That somehow in our imperfections we are unworthy of receiving the love of God. And the devil doesn't cease looking for a way in. The evil one will cast doubts in our hearts. He does this with all of us. Things like: "If only I were skinnier, or had better skin, or (fill in the blank), then I would be loved. If only I were smarter, or more athletic, I could fit in." He also does this through our sins. "Surely God knows the things I've done. There's no way he could forgive me." But it couldn't be farther from the truth.

Where sin increased, grace overflowed all the more,

so that, as sin reigned in death,

grace also might reign through justification

for eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Rom 5: 20-21

The Lord wants to give us his grace. AND his grace is proportionate to our imperfections. To our sins. We don't have to worry about being good enough. God is good enough, and he wants to spend eternal lie with us. We just have to give him the permission to work in our lives. How is God's grace working in your life already? How much more can you allow God to have today?

Did you know...

I was ordained to the diaconate for the diocese of St. Petersburg on April 6th of this past year, and I am anticipating ordination to the priesthood, along with two of my classmates, in May at the Cathedral of St. Jude in St. Petersburg. Outside of Church, I enjoy exercising outdoors: running, biking, and swimming. And I am an avid fan of the Bucs Bolts, Rays, and Gators.

Pray with us for the men and women discerning the priesthood and religious life. To pray for our seminarians by name or to find out more about the Diocese of St. Petersburg vocations office, click here.
