God's Tools

By Kenny Keenan
Yet, this experience wasn't simply about playing baseball...

Luke 12:15

Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one's life does not consist of possessions.

On Sunday afternoon, I went out to the baseball field to hit a bucket of baseballs. Yet, this experience wasn't simply about playing baseball. Rather, it was time with God. As memories of growing up playing baseball with my dad came forward, I encountered the love of God the Father. Here, my possessions, the time and equipment needed to go out to the ball field, were used by God to draw me into a deeper relationship with Himself. On a more practical level, my time out on the field served as the exercise needed to recharge in preparation for another week of studies.

When we allow Jesus to take the center of our hearts, our possessions begin to be seen as instruments to be used God to bring faith, hope, and love to our family and friends. In seeing our possessions in this new light, as tools to be used by God to serve others, the greed which Christ has warned us of no longer has any power over us.

Did you know...

Hi SpiritFM Listeners! My name is Kenny Keenan and I'm in my third year of formation for the priesthood! Fun fact: Growing up I didn't want to be a priest, but rather a baseball player. As I've experienced the call to the priesthood, I've experienced God has had a much more joyful and fulfilling plan for my life!

Pray with us for the men and women discerning the priesthood and religious life. To pray for our seminarians by name or to find out more about the Diocese of St. Petersburg vocations office, click here.
