and you can hear the sound it makes,
but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes;
so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."
As I type this in mid-March, news is rapidly spreading and strategies are quickly being devised regarding COVID19. The extent of our autonomy, which we as a society held in high esteem for the first months of this New Year, seems to be under trial as our finitude and limitedness 'come center stage'.
How do we see these events in light of our faith? As a people of faith we believe that through our Baptism and reception of the Holy Spirit, we become Christians. God's love begins to dwell within us.
I want to encourage you, in the midst of uncertainty, to mediate on the Holy Spirit's presence in your life. Have you heard, in prayer, the sound the Spirit makes amidst all the panic in society? Recall the still small voice Elijah heard on the mountain.
Do you believe that the Father has set His seal of Love in you and wants you to hear Him this day?
Later in John 3, John the Baptists states, "No one can receive anything except what is given him from heaven". May we always listen intently to the Holy Spirit so we may receive what the Lord wants to grant us.
