Fruit of the Church

By John Morris
What kind of fruit are you for your church community?

Ezekiel 47:12

Every month they will bear fresh fruit because the waters of the river flow out from the sanctuary. Their fruit is used for food, and their leaves for healing.

At Spirit FM we often hear this statement from listeners, "I don't go to church, Spirit FM is my church," or, "I haven't found the right church, I'm still looking."  All of us are on a journey of faith.  Some farther down the path than others, but we are all on the same journey with the goal of heaven.  A church community makes the journey easier.  There's something great to be said about belonging to a community with the common values, beliefs and love.  Our faith is stronger as a group than as one person in the wilderness.  Jesus taught that, "where two or three are gathered, I am there."

Today, Catholics around the world celebrate the Feast of the Dedication of St John Lateran Basilica in Rome, the main Church or parish, for Catholics.  This is the seat of the Pope (not St. Peter's).  But today is something more than just a celebration for the dedication of this church.  It's a celebration of THE church.  It's a celebration of Christians coming together every weekend to praise God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  We build community as a church. We help those less fortunate.  We lift each other up in prayer.  The healing waters of the baptismal font flow out to the community.  The healing waters that flow from the side of Christ on the cross flow out to the believers, feeding us spiritually and giving us healing.  There is great fruit to be had by joining a church community. Don't wander in the wilderness of our society…come home to the church today!
