Food for the starving

By Fr. Chuck Dornquast
Present within the Catholic faith is the nourishment which the world starves for...

When the famine had spread throughout the land, Joseph opened all the cities that had grain and rationed it to the Egyptians, since the famine had gripped the land of Egypt. Indeed, the whole world came to Egypt to Joseph to buy grain, for famine had gripped the whole world. Genesis 41:56-57

Present within the Catholic faith is the nourishment which the world starves for. As Egypt and the world experienced a famine, we too are experiencing a famine in our world. We live in a time where our families, friends, neighbors and perhaps ourselves are starving. We starve for a connection to something beyond ourselves which gives life purpose and meaning. We starve to know that we are not alone in our troubles and difficulties. We starve to know that we are known, seen and loved. As Egypt and the world turned to Joseph and were fed, so too can the world turn to our faith and be fed. o Present within each of our parishes and lying at the foundation of our faith is the one who has given His flesh and blood for our nourishment. At each Eucharistic feast the Son of God unites His flesh to ours. He intermingles His blood with ours. He opens His heart for yours.

How might I invite those who live in the world around me to recognize the food which can satisfy the starvation in their lives?

Let us pray today that we might receive the truth of the Eucharist more fully into our lives than we ever have.
