Following the Lord's Way

By Roberto Cartaya
In the first reading, Moses talks to the people of Israel about the importance of following the Lord’s commandments...

“See, I have today set before you life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the LORD, your God, which I am giving you today, loving the LORD, your God, and walking in his ways, and keeping his commandments, statutes and ordinances, you will live and grow numerous, and the LORD, your God, will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.”

Deuteronomy 30:15-16

In the first reading, Moses talks to the people of Israel about the importance of following the Lord’s commandments. We are reminded of how important it is for us to follow Christ in order to live our life at its fullest potential. Moses tells his people, “Today I have set before you life and prosperity, death and doom… you will live and grow numerous, and the LORD, your God, will bless you in the land you are entering to occupy” (Deuteronomy 30). Our God gave us these laws not to punish us or make life difficult, but to guide us closer to Him. In today’s world, people think of rules as controlling but it frees us from making mistakes that could have permanent or scarring consequences. Following the Lord’s Commandments, will lead us toward abundance in life and prosperity, joy, purity, peace and love in our lives. This is what our culture is lacking in today’s world of social media, divorce, abortion and many other things that are becoming “normal”.

Where do we find following the Lord's Commandments bettering our everyday life?

Father, we pray for an increase of humility and obedience as we continue living out Your Will. Amen.
