War broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back, but they did not prevail and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.
Today is the Feast of the Archangels, Michael, Raphael and Gabriel. The Church celebrates these angelic authorities and recognizes their place in the heavenly order. One of the most intriguing books of the bible is the Revelation of John. It is full of both realism and symbolism. Of the gospel authors, John is one that writes about the Alpha and Omega, the Ancient One, The Throne, Crown of Stars and imagery that words cannot describe. Today's reading reminds us that our world is passing, it is short in the timelessness of eternity. Each of us will one day see it, we cannot escape it. Every person who has walked this earth has died and gone on to their eternal reward…even Jesus himself. We cannot escape it. To get that heavenly reward, we must fight temptation, live the Ten Commandments, and be good to others, always loving God with our whole heart, and loving others the same. While we fight the daily struggle, the bible tells us that there is another fight. The Archangels are fight for us as well. There is a world outside our own that we have trouble comprehending, but the angels are fighting for you. Pray and thank God today for those angels we don't see, and those angels we do see helping others in this world.
