FOR A TIME

By John Morris
The temptation is always there if we are open to it...

When the devil had finished every temptation, he departed from him for a time.  Luke 4:14

By the end of the 40 days in the desert, Jesus was hungry and weakened. This is when the temptations came. This happens to us as well. When we are weakened by life's circumstances we can succumb to temptation and fall into sin. Jesus was tempted by physical needs like food; a temptation to take care of himself instead of focusing on God. He was tempted by power, to be ruler over every kingdom. He was tempted by fame and spectacle by doing an unbelievable "trick." Jesus turned away from every temptation. Can you? Do you and I have the spiritual and physical strength to keep our moral compass straight and not fall to shortcuts and temptations? We must have courage to resist temptations and give our weaknesses to Jesus.

Question for Reflection

How can I better identify the subtle temptations in life so that I might avoid them?

Holy Spirit, steer me away from every temptation and help me enounter your love every day!
