Expecting Grace

By Fr. Chuck Dornquast
When I played little league baseball...

"He replied, 'I tell you, to everyone who has, more will be given, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away." - Luke 19:26

When I played little league baseball it took a while to learn a simple trick when judging a pop-up. While the temptation was always to run forward, I was coached to take a step or two back first to get a sense of where the ball would be. This small little trick perhaps saved me a few times from having the ball sail over my head. The trick in itself expected the ball to go beyond where I had initially guessed.

To everyone who has, more will be given°so often I'm astounded by what may be described as the reckless generosity of God. At times, I think He has already been so good to me, provided me this or that grace and has been tapped out in His goodness to me. But what if I assume that there is more to come? What if I expect grace? What if when I go to prayer, I expect grace to be poured out in abundance? What if when I interacted with neighbors, family, friends or strangers I expected the Lord to provide Grace° May we take the Lord at His word, to everyone who has, more will be given.

What place in my life do I limit the generosity of the Lord?

Jesus, help me to remember Your desire to give more than I can fathom.
