Even the Leper Gave Thanks

By John Morris
Our leprosy is sin and we must thank God for our healing...

Luke 17:17-18

Jesus said in reply, "Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine? Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?"

Happy Thanksgiving!  Today is the day where we as Americans give thanks to God for all that God has bestowed on our country.  It's the day when families travel great distances to come together in love and fellowship to be thankful for their lives.  But often we don't prioritize the events of the day.  After all, Thanksgiving has become the unofficial kickoff to the Christmas shopping season.  We feed up, rest up and strategize for what is going to become a big shopping event on Friday, either online or at the malls.  The turkey population takes a huge hit and casseroles are the norm at most houses.  But how many go to church? Do we pray at the meal and have good family conversation, or do we turn up the tv to hear the football game?  In today's gospel from Luke, Jesus asks where nine of the 10 lepers he healed ran off to?  Only one came to Jesus and thanked him.  We are all lepers in this life, but our disease is sin.  Use this day to return to Jesus in thanksgiving for all he has given you!
