Even the Best

By John Morris
National leaders, industry leaders, even clergy and faithful face temptation.

Luke 11:24

"When an unclean spirit goes out of someone, it roams through arid regions searching for rest but, finding none, it says, 'I shall return to my home from which I came.'

Temptation and pride are two of the most effective tools that Satan uses against us.  From the beginning of time, we were tempted to do things we shouldn't.  All of us…there are no exceptions.  Same with pride.   Many times these tools are aimed at the most successful people we know, or we judge them as being successful anyway.  National leaders, movie stars, rich, middle income, poor, we all measure success in different ways.  Satan targets them all.  He also targets leaders in our church.  In fact probably more so than anyone else.  Satan himself even tempted Jesus.

Yesterday, we heard the gospel reading about persistent prayer.  Satan tries to combat that with his own assault.  Today Jesus tells us in Luke's Gospel that when the unclean spirit leaves, it roams until it finds a place to rest.  If it can't it will go back to the person it came from, but be seven times worse.  That's why we have to be on guard, we have to use each other to keep us on the right path, to go to Church whenever we can.  We have to watch the right tv shows, listen to the right radio station, read the right books, look at the right social media.  Stay away from temptation and always stay focused on Jesus.  The minute we look away, temptation will slide in.
