Entrusted

By Fr. Chuck Dornquast
It’s remarkable how much the creator of the cosmos entrusted to humanity...

The LORD God then called to the man and asked him: Where are you? He answered, “I heard you in the garden; but I was afraid, because I was naked, so I hid.” Then God asked: Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I had forbidden you to eat? The man replied, “The woman whom you put here with me—she gave me fruit from the tree, so I ate it.” The LORD God then asked the woman: What is this you have done? The woman answered, “The snake tricked me, so I ate it.”

Genesis 1:9-13

It’s remarkable how much the creator of the cosmos entrusted to humanity. It in fact causes great scandal to some. How is it that the Lord would entrust the future of all creation to humanity? Why would he place a tree which could potentially ruin everything in the garden? Why didn’t he put up better alarms or security or safer barriers? Because to Love Him requires choosing Him and if there is no other option then there is no choice which bears the fruit of love. How highly the Lord thinks of His creation, of you. Lest we think this decision to entrust so much to humanity only resided in the Garden, today we recall that Mary too was entrusted with much. That she becomes the witness of complete dependence in God to her Son. Like Mary, you’ve been entrusted with much—may you also imitate her fidelity.

Do I struggle with the reality that God has called me to courageously live the Gospel for others?

Mary, intercede for me with your Son that I might become more like Him.
