Encountering the Lord During Lent

By Isaac Cruz
Growing up, my father had a simple outlook when it came to most tasks...

"This, rather, is the fasting that I wish: releasing those bound unjustly, untying the thongs of the yoke; Setting free the oppressed, breaking every yoke" - Isaiah 58:6

Growing up, my father had a simple outlook when it came to most tasks. He would often say to me, "Son, there is a 'right' way and a 'wrong' way to do things." This extended to almost anything he did in life, and it is something that he did his best to instill in me. Often times though, children try to outsmart their parents in an oft vain attempt to impress them. We think we know better but often times all we end up doing is complicating things. God wants you to encounter Him in this season of Lent in our fasting, and like all good parents, He has shown us in todays scripture the "right" way to go about it. Lets not complicate this.

Is there some way in your prayer life or spiritual life where you are maybe trying to do things your way, and not the Father's way?

Lord, may we encounter you this Lent through your word and sacraments, remembering to follow Your way and not our own.
