Do you not remember

By Sr. Cathy Cahill
In today's Gospel we see the disciples of Jesus scrambling for answers and excuses...

"Do you have eyes and not see, ears and not hear? And do you not remember..." - Mark 8:18

In today's Gospel we see the disciples of Jesus scrambling for answers and excuses. Jesus reads into hearts and minds and asks the important questions: Do you not yet understand or comprehend? Are your hearts hardened? Then He asks them about that great miracle of feeding the many with a few loaves and fish. Do you not remember how much was left over? Sometimes it is that way with me. I don't understand something that is happening, I determine there will not be enough "bread" for me to respond. Then Jesus asks the question, "Do you not remember..." Do you not remember the time you thought you would not get through that awful situation -- and you did? Do you not remember when the task seemed too great -- and you did it well? Do you not remember when you thought you could not get through the death of your siblings – and you were supported by so many people and my good grace. Do you not remember?

Do I not remember the times that the grace of God has enabled me to respond courageously to the events of my life?

Soften this harden heart and open these eyes that see but do not perceive that I might so Your holy and true will for me this day. Amen
