Choosing Jesus

By Fr. Chuck Dornquast
This may be an over-simplification but Judas didn’t choose Jesus...

Then one of the Twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, “What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?” They paid him thirty pieces of silver, and from that time on he looked for an opportunity to hand him over.

Mt. 26:14-16

This may be an over-simplification but Judas didn’t choose Jesus. We can conjecture about all the things which Jesus did choose and wonder what led to those decisions. But ultimately Judas did not choose Jesus, to trust in jesus, to give everything to Jesus, to be fully dependent on Jesus, to suffer with Jesus. As we enter into the Triduum this week, it allows us a time to practice choosing Jesus. We enter into the mystery of these days and contemplate how we might choose differently from Judas. May our meditation on choosing Jesus in these days enable us to more faithfully choose Jesus for the rest of our days.

When do I choose my own plan for my life over the plan which Jesus has provided?

Jesus, help me to more faithfully choose you.
