“…it depends on faith, so that it may be a gift, and the promise guaranteed two all his [Abraham’s] descendants…”
Romans 4:16
Today’s scripture readings remind us that all we have is gift, and more specifically, our faith and the Spirit within us. Our father in faith, Abraham, received the gift of faith and acted upon it. “Hoping against hope”, he believed God would be faithful to His promise. When we face situations that seem hopeless, the Bible draws our attention to Abraham and Sarah who went forth in faith and with great courage. In the gospel today, Jesus reminds us the we are to be courageous in proclaiming our faith in Him. And, we are not to worry about it! The Holy Spirit will teach us “…in that moment” what we are to say. For our part, we are to acknowledge Jesus before others. We are to live this gift of faith given to us.
Do I recognize that faith is a gift, not something I earn or work for? Do I cherish the gift by sharing it with others?
Thank you, good and generous God, for the gift of faith and for the gift of your faithfulness to me. Amen
