Captivating Words

By Caleb Malec
Have you ever been so captivated by someone speaking that...

"..all the people were hanging on his words." Lk 19:48

Have you ever been so captivated by someone speaking that they left you speechless, wanting more? It's amazing! We never want to leave the presence of that person. A time this happened to me was in January, on a silent retreat during a conference titled, "Silence Is Not A Punishment". Father spoke passionately, with great conviction! I hung on his words, "Silence is not a punishment, but an opportunity to see in abundance." Nothing was able to change my mind. I wouldn't let go of these words, and  I yearned for more!  Likewise in today's Gospel, "The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders" were not able to accomplish what they wanted because the people hung on Jesus' words in the temple. The people yearned for more! From the responsorial Psalm, "I gasp with open mouth in my yearning for your commands." I can only imagine that perhaps Jesus was teaching the do's and don'ts of the temple. Learning about our Church blows me away, so I can imagine what it would be like coming from Jesus. When we really learn the importance of the temple(church), and Jesus' words, we are truly left in awe. It's contagious, making you yearn for more and to share what you learned!

Do you yearn to hear Jesus' words? How do they move you to share with others?

Heavenly Father, let me hang onto Your words as the people did in the temple.
