COURAGE OF JONAH

By John Morris
Obedience can be difficult but with courage we can...

Because at the preaching of Jonah they repented, and there is something greater than Jonah here.  Luke 11:32

It is sometimes hard being obedient to people we trust.  How about being obedient to someone we really don't know or to something we can't see?  For some people, perhaps most of us, that's how it is with God.  We want to trust and be obedient, and we are for the most part.  But sometimes we stray, we doubt and lose faith that God's will in our lives will overcome our shortcomings.  In Luke's gospel, Jesus refers to the story of Jonah and how the people repented because Jonah had the courage to speak truth despite his misgivings.  Jonah at first, ran from the Lord, but God used him as an instrument, a prophet if you will, to preach repentance.  God desires us to answer that same call.  How will you respond?  Will you run like Jonah first did, or will you stand with courage to proclaim the Good News?

Question for Reflection

How will you proclaim God's love in your surroundings today?

Holy Spirit, give me courage to be a living witness of God's love in my home and in my community.
