Build It Up

By John Morris
If this foundation is weak then, both coworkers and family members...

Ephesians 2:19-20

You are fellow citizens with the holy ones and members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the capstone.

Whether at work or at home, you probably have a set of rules you follow and principles in which you abide.  Those serve as your foundation for the decisions you make that impact your coworkers, or your family members.  Those coworkers and members see those principles and learn over time what you stand for, what your lines are and how you operate.  If this foundation is weak then, both coworkers and family members will take advantage of you and that can lead to collapse.

Paul is reminding the Ephesians that they now have been given their foundation and principles to live by that Christ has taught them and Paul has passed on.  Paul sets the structure of their beliefs, that our faith is built on the shoulders of the apostles and believers that came before, making a pyramid all the way to the top where Jesus is the capstone, holding it all together.  As a Christian, we have the responsibility to stand with other believers to keep the structure, the Temple of Christ, strong.  That responsibility lies in living a good life, avoiding sin, praising God, and sharing our faith.  If we become weak, then the church becomes weak, and our faith collapses.  Prayer keeps us strong.  Pray without ceasing today!
