Better Get Your Act Together

By John Morris
Our conduct to be judged is like turning in a research paper...

Matthew 16:27

"For the Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father's glory, and then he will repay each according to his conduct."

The greed of man is insatiable. When we have a taste, we want more.  It might be success, influence, money, sex, food, alcohol, drugs, etc.  It's a form of lust.  We have seen the rise and fall of nations throughout the centuries because of lust for more power and possessions. We like one thing, and we want more of it.  It's part of our original sin.  We must be aware of it in order to fight it.

In Jesus's time, the Hebrews had to deal with warring nations.  The Romans taking territories, they had dealt with Babylonians and Egyptians, and within their own ranks the fighting within their own governance.  It was all about power.  Jesus tells them "What profit would there be for one to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?" He's talking about forfeiting the soul.  He goes on to say that the Son of Man will come with angels and our conduct will be judged.  So how are doing?  How do you think you'll be judged?  Is your conduct worthy enough for God to judge it?  It's like handing in a research paper…you're nervous and maybe even scared to hand it in because you don't know how it will be judged.  Your life is like that.  We have to do our best, because good may not be good enough.
