Bend not Break

By Andy Shannon
As a native Floridian and someone who grew up a stone's throw from the Gulf of Mexico...

"Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you."

John 21:17b

As a native Floridian and someone who grew up a stone's throw from the Gulf of Mexico, you would think that I am an expert fisherman. Yet, you would be wrong. I do not have the patience nor the endurance that it takes for someone to master the art of fishing. Yet, Simon Peter does. Peter, who was still reeling from the events that had taken place in Jerusalem, had to go where he was most comfortable and to a place where he could just be away from any thoughts or memories that might torture him.

Where is that place for you? If you need to be alone or with some close family members or friends and just be - do yourself a favor and invite Jesus along. Jesus might come as a silent observer or Jesus may show up and ask you a question that digs deep like in the case of Simon Peter on the shore. In either case, when you feel like you have reached your breaking point, turn to Jesus, and allow Jesus through his words or actions to put you back together and send you on your way. In this way, you will be in good company - with Simon Peter and more importantly, the One who knows everything!

When you are down and out and weary, where do you run to? And, more importantly, to whom do you run?

Jesus - empowered by your Resurrection, may Your love and forgiveness equip us to, "Feed your sheep."
