Be a wise guy

By Zachary Brasseur
When we talk about "wise men", we usually don’t think of the villains of history...

“Because into a soul that plots evil, wisdom enters not, nor dwells she in a body under debt of sin.”

Wisdom 1:4

When we talk about “wise men”, we usually don’t think of the villains of history: Hitler, Stalin, Genghis Khan. They might be shrewd, cunning, persuasive, but not wise. To call someone wise is an affirmation not only of his or her intelligence but also of character.

The Bible understands wisdom as a gift from God that helps us to discern good from evil. With that in mind, it’s hard to think of a “wise villain”. None of us are truly villains, but we do have sins that we struggle with and that prevent us from seeing God clearly to receive the wisdom that he wants to give us. Wisdom is a gift, and like any gift, we have to be ready to receive it.

What do you want to repent of in order to open yourself more and more to God's work in your life?

Come Holy Spirit, and fill me with the gift of wisdom.
