Ask See Knock

By Char Lerch
In yesterday's readings, we heard the disciples ask Jesus to...

"And I tell you, ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."

Luke 11:9

In yesterday's readings, we heard the disciples ask Jesus to teach them how to pray. Jesus responded by teaching them the Lord's Prayer. Today He takes it a step further when He alludes to the Holy Spirit, through examples of being persistent in asking for the door to be opened.

We know that the Our Father prayer teaches us the right sequence to pray for our desires, but it is the Holy Spirit who gives us the gifts of wisdom and understanding, and other gifts when necessary, so that the most perfect prayer and all our prayers, come to life!

Jesus wants us to know that when we ask for strength, or courage, or patience, or anything, our prayers are heard. When we "ask" in humility, "seek" through faith and "knock" urgently, for our needs to be met, God searches our hearts and knows our inmost desire. He knows exactly what we need. And like a Good Father, when our prayers are united with the Son, he sends the Holy Spirit in love to answer them.

What gifts from the Holy Spirit do you need to carry out your mission?

Lord, help me use my gifts to evangelize to others and to serve You. Amen
