As the Prophets Foretold

By John Morris
Despite our ignorance and stupidity, God will....

Acts 3:25

You are the children of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your ancestors when he said to Abraham, "In your offspring all the families of the earth shall be blessed."

Jesus has risen as he said.  Alleluia!  These words fulfill the promise of the covenant between God and man.  Easter marks a new time in the church.  It's a rebirth for people in their conversion, and for the new covenant between the Creator and the people.  In today's reading from Acts, Peter and John have just healed a crippled man.  The people are dumbfounded, but Peter proclaims that this was possible not through them, but through the promise of Jesus Christ and the promise God made to his people.  He also reminded the crowd that it was the people who denied Jesus and had him hung on a cross.  Yet despite their ignorance and denial, God would never leave them.

God made a promise to all of mankind.  This promise, this covenant, has been passed down through the centuries, that we are his people and that we worship God as the only true God, and that he would never abandon us.  In our society we search for instant gratification.  Once that happens, we rush to the next thing.  We are just a few days past Easter Sunday, yet some have already moved on to the next big event.  Remember that the Easter celebration lasts 50 days.  Don't rush past this celebration.  Enjoy the moment and always remember that God will always bless you as he promised, both in the good times and in the challenging ones. Like the crippled man who clung to Peter and John, remember to cling to Jesus in all times.
