Acts 13:2-3
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."
Then, completing their fasting and prayer, they laid hands on them and sent them off.
They had the message, they had the word and the direction yet it still wasn't about the work. God doesn't need our work—He's God! He desires our attention. From our time with Him, He brings forth His plan. Today's passage reminds us that every aspect of Christianity is oriented towards relationship. The leaders of the Church fasted so they could be more attuned to God, they worshiped to be with God and even when they were given a direction from the Holy Spirit, they concluded their fasting and praying. They remembered that it's all about being with God. So often I can forget that God doesn't need my work, he needs my attention. With that he can use me to accomplish all things.
