Acceptance of Truth

By John Morris
How hard is it for you to truly admit that you are wrong?

Acts 5:33

When they heard this, they became infuriated and wanted to put them to death.

This probably happens to most of us. You have a discussion with a family member or co-worker and it doesn't go the way you want it. In fact you may be accused of something…something that is true but don't want to come to grips with the reality of what is obvious. It probably make you fearful, scared and even angry, especially to the person or persons who are confronting you. I have been on both sides and it's not fun.

In today's reading from Acts, Peter and the other apostles are called before the high priest accused of disobeying the orders to stop teaching in the name of Jesus. Peter responds that they obey God, not man and then Peter accuses the high court that they were the ones responsible for having Jesus killed. They knew, at least partially, that Peter and the others were right. The only way to silence them was to kill them, but they didn't want any more blood on their hands. A tight position for sure. They were enraged!!! They didn't want to admit that they were wrong. Isn't that how it is with us sometimes? Our pride is so strong that we don't want to admit when we are wrong. We are so in love with ourselves that we cannot see the imperfections in our personalities. Today is a reminder to surrender ourselves to the will of God and not our own. Are you truly doing what God wants you to do, or are you doing what you want to do because it is convenient for you or for a means to an end that is not Godly? Pray on this today.
