Accept the Invitation

By Deacon Drew Woodke
Do we make excuses like those who were invited to the feast?...

Luke 14: 16-17

He replied to him, "A man gave a great dinner to which he invited many. When the time for the dinner came, he dispatched his servant to say to those invited, 'Come, everything is now ready.'"

In today's gospel from the mass Jesus tells a parable while at table about a man who gives a great dinner and invites many people. As his servants went out to give the invitation, but one by one his invited guests give an excuse for why they can't come. "I just purchased a field° I just purchased some oxen° I just got married. I can't go."

We've all been invited to this great feast, to be in a relationship with God, but do we work on that relationship? Do we give time to prayer? Just to check in, and see how things are going? Or do we make excuses like those who were invited to the feast? Today and every day God is calling us just to make our prayer lives a priority. Whether it be for just 5 minutes, or an hour! Maybe your only time to pray is during this short time we have together here (I'm referring to prayer time and the thought for the day). Whatever the case may be, God wants to be a part of your life. Are you willing to accept the invitation? Or will you make an excuse?
