After my father died, we had to go through everything and decide what should be kept and what should be discarded. While going through things, I ran into a couple of things that had tremendous sentimental value. There were some things of monetary value, but a couple of things had more value to me than any treasure. In today's reading from Saint Matthew, Jesus compares the kingdom of heaven to a most valuable pearl. It is something that you want, and that once you have it, you'll never sell. It's something that you'd do anything for to obtain, including selling all that you have. Is our faith like that? Is our relationship with Jesus like that? Would we do anything and everything we could to obtain the kingdom of heaven? We probably would say "yes," but do we really commit to it?

Would you sacrifice all that you have for the heavenly kingdom?
Lord, give me the heart and will to do all in my power to treasure you more than I do material things on this earth.
