A New Leaf

By John Morris
Many of us hit the reset button on our lives at the start of the new year...

Hebrews 8:13

When he speaks of a "new" covenant, he declares the first one obsolete. And what has become obsolete and has grown old is close to disappearing.

In Paul's letter to the Hebrews, the author shares some of the teachings of Jesus regarding the old and new covenant. For the leaders of the temple, this was a challenge to their authority. Paul however exhorts the listeners that things have changed and there is a new way of thinking, and that is through Jesus.

Just 20 days ago, we started a new year. Many of us hit the reset button on our old habits and decided to make changes for the good. Maybe some were to diet and exercise, others to give up television, or to not waste as resources like electricity and water. It's as if we are 'turning a new leaf', a chance to start new. That's what Paul is explaining to us. We have a chance to put the past behind us, and start down a new road leading us to God. We can't look in the rearview mirror…instead we have to look forward on a new journey. Use this new year to change some of your old habits, and make a new covenant with yourself and God. A promise to pray more, to go to Church more, to tell others about Jesus when you have the opportunity. It will be a great way to start the year fresh.
