A Contagious Joy

By Fr. Kyle Bell
The call to evangelize is not limited to priests and deacons, bishops and cardinals and popes...

"Thus says the LORD of hosts: In those days ten men of every nationality, speaking different tongues, shall take hold, yes, take hold of every Jew by the edge of his garment and say, 'Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.'"

Zechariah 8:23

The call to evangelize is not limited to priests and deacons, bishops and cardinals and popes.  No, each and every baptized Christian is called to be an evangelist.  While evangelization does sometimes require intentional teaching about who Jesus is and what He did, one does not need a degree in theology to be an evangelist.  One need only live the contagious joy of the Gospel.  What if we spent every day living out our identity as sons and daughters of God the Father?  What if we joyfully proclaimed with our very lives that human beings are loved unconditionally, that there is more to life than the problems and stresses of this world?  Would not that be a contagious joy, an evangelical life, the kind of attractive life that would cause those around us to take hold of us like we hear in Zechariah and say: "Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you."?  That is the kind of evangelization that gets me excited.

How can I live a contagious joy today?

Lord, make me a joyful evangelist for You!
