Nepal celebrates Mother Teresa's canonization

Both Catholics and non-Catholics from Nepal's Kathmandu Valley celebrated the canonization of St. Teresa of Kolkata on Saturday. Congregations and religious societies were among those who came together for the Oct. 22 celebrations held at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral in the Nepalese capital where a brief biography of Mother Teresa was read out. Bishop Paul Simick of Nepal honored all the nuns, members of executive bodies and associates of the Missionaries of Charity congregation with a khada (traditional ceremonial scarf) for their service to Mother Teresa's order which has been in Nepal since 1978. Mother Teresa's successor at the Missionaries of Charity is Sister Niarmal who originally came from a well-respected Hindu Nepalese family.
