When Joseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wife into his home.
Matthew 1:24
“I knew right away that’s what God was calling me to do.” Those are words I have never spoken! I feel like I’m kind of hard of hearing when it comes to the voice of God. Today the church celebrates St. Joseph. Other than his lineage, we don’t learn a whole lot about St. Joseph, but one thing is very clear. When God speaks, St. Joseph listens! I really admire and look up to him for his willingness to listen to God, even when it’s hard to hear Him. We can learn from St. Joseph’s example. Even if you don’t have a clear understanding of what God is calling you to do, you can still have an open heart and be on the lookout for God’s messenger. It may not be as clear as a vision from an angel. Maybe it will come as a word from your spouse or your priest during reconciliation. The important part is to open your heart to what God is calling you to do.
How is God calling me to serve His kingdom today?
Lord, give me a heart like St. Joseph, to hear your voice and love your people.
