Transformed through Mercy

By Carly Bosse
I am both convicted and consoled by the Word of the Lord in this passage from Isaiah...

"Come now, let us set things right, says the Lord: Though your sins be like scarlet, they may become white as snow; Though they be red like crimson, they may become white as wool. If you are willing, and obey, you shall eat the good things of the land." Isaiah 1:18-19

I am both convicted and consoled by the Word of the Lord in this passage from Isaiah. I am a sinner. I have failed to love the Lord, as well as my brothers and sisters that He has given me, so many times.

Here is the conviction: my sins are like scarlet. But the Lord is not content with this. He says, “Come now, let us set things right.” The urgency of the “now!” He wants my heart now. He wants to give graces to you now. He wants to enter into our messes and pour out mercy on us now.

Here is the consolation: He wants to make our sins white as snow, taking away the sting and replacing it with his grace. A beautiful way that the Lord longs to serve us here is through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. What a perfect season to let the Lord into your mess. Turn your heart to Him who loves you. In this second week of Lent, give Him your penance, your almsgiving, your prayer. Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, experience the abundant mercy of the words of absolution as the Lord sets things right, and see how He will transform you and provide good things for you.

Are you willing to let the Lord into your heart in this way? Check out your parishes website for Confession times!

Lord, thank you for the urgency with which you seek me and long for my good. Help me to turn my heart to you, that I may receive the abundant mercy you freely give to me.
