Footsteps

By Martina Ver Pault
A couple of years ago I had the honor, pleasure and great joy of doing a pilgrimage in the Holy Land...

"Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days, to be tempted by the devil."

Luke 4:1-2

A couple of years ago I had the honor, pleasure and great joy of doing a pilgrimage in the Holy Land.  If you haven’t been and have the opportunity to do a pilgrimage, I highly recommend it.  The experience is beyond words - to walk in the footsteps of our Blessed Lord.  No words can describe the impact it has on, at the very least, your prayer life.  I have heard it called the fifth Gospel.  Every Bible passage comes to life, almost like a memory.  I can imagine what the landscape might have looked like and where Jesus stood.  But during Lent, we are invited to walk in His footsteps in our own lives.  As we hear today in Luke’s Gospel, Jesus fasted and was able to defeat the devil with the Word of the Lord.  May your fasting and knowledge of His Word, protect and strengthen you as it did Jesus during His temptation.  May His Word be on your lips as you face the devil and his temptations.  May your footprints meet Jesus’ on the road.

Are there someone's footprints you are trying to follow?

Lord, As we walk through these 40 days of lent, lead us, guide us, protect us.
