This Little Light of Mine

Thursday, January 31, 2019 • John Morris
If you're light is covered, no one can see you.

Mark 4:21

"Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket or under a bed, and not to be placed on a lampstand?"

We have a nightlight in our bedroom, and it drives me crazy, except when I have to get up in the night.  The light is used to cut the darkness so that I can see where I'm walking.  I don't want to trip over things I have left out in my path.  The light is there for a reason:  to help me see where I'm going and avoid falling down.   If the nightlight were covered up, it would serve no purpose.  If it were under the bed, it would be useful should I need to be looking under the bed for something.  It would be very limiting.

All of us have gifts and talents but do we let them shine?  You've probably heard the kid's song, "This Little Light of Mine, I'm gonna let it shine."  God has given us something we can use to help others.  Some of us might be embarrassed at our talents, or shy about using them because they might not be up to the standards expected by our contemporaries.  We don't want the ridicule of being put down on our idea so we keep it to ourselves.  But if we keep it in, sometimes it stunts the growth of ourselves and of the group.  There is also a balance to sharing.  Like a night light, too much light can be annoying sometimes so we have to dial it back at bit.  Other times, the light needs to be turned up.  Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you through the darkness and share your light with others.
