Intimate Vs. Intimidating

There was an easy chair in the corner where my dad would sit...

Hebrews 9:24

For Christ did not enter into a sanctuary made by hands, a copy of the true one, but heaven itself, that he might now appear before God on our behalf.

Growing up I always knew I could talk to my parents about anything. All the really serious conversations took place in their bedroom. There was an easy chair in the corner where my dad would sit, while I sat on the edge of the bed. There was a certain amount of gravity when we had a conversation in this fashion. I felt like I was being given a high privilege. I had my father's undivided attention. But it was more intimate than intimidating.

It's downright intimidating when we think of sitting in a room at the feet of God. Thankfully God knows our hearts and what we need. So he sent his son to do it for us. The sacrifice that Jesus made for us was not only his death and resurrection, but becoming a man. Jesus felt pain like we did. Jesus wept at the death of his friend and the sorrow it brought those around him. Jesus felt hunger. All this so that we could have a place with him in heaven. God desires an intimate relationship with you. Thanks to that sacrifice we now have that intimate relationship through Jesus Christ.
