Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the skins are ruined. Rather, new wine is poured into fresh wineskins."
Reading this passage gives me comfort. Here we see people questioning Christ about fasting and he answers them with a parable and two metaphors. This is not the easiest passage to comprehend. The short meaning in this passage is that Jesus was changing up the rulebook on his followers. They were taught from birth that following the rules of their religion was the ticket into heaven. But Jesus changes all of that. The coolest part is that he doesn't make them feel dumb about it. He gently teaches them using examples from their everyday life. There have been many times in my life I needed a changeup. God put people in my path who gently taught me the right direction to go. Do you have those kind of people in your life? Can you be that person to someone else today?
