Drop the Excuses, God's Not Buying It

Tuesday, January 8, 2019 • Abby
The start of a new year always inspires me, as it does most of us...

Mark 6:37

Jesus said to them in reply, "Give them some food yourselves." But they said to him, "Are we to buy two hundred days' wages worth of food and give it to them to eat?"

The start of a new year always inspires me, as it does most of us. Instead of a resolution, I usually feel motivated to move forward toward some goal or aspiration, to regroup and start fueling the fire again. Then I start to doubt myself and whether it's the right move. At the core of all of it are excuses and fear.  How much do you let those two enemies get the best of you?

In today's gospel Jesus tells the disciples to feed thousands of people. Cue the excuses. I would've been scared that if only some were able to eat, the ones who didn't would get angry and revolt or worse yet, think I'm mean and unfair!

But if God is calling you to something, it doesn't matter if there are only two fish, a mountain in front of you, no skills in your set, or zero dollars in your bank. He can make it happen, but it takes your cooperation.

So what makes us think so little (or maybe so highly) of ourselves that we think God can't be God because of us. No, God is telling you - Don't make excuses. Don't sit on the sidelines of life feeling intimidated or incapable. Put your life, your goals and your dreams into My hands."
