And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father's only Son, full of grace and truth.
This first chapter of John's gospel is by far one of my favorite parts of the bible. I love the image of the Word becoming flesh. I am ceaselessly amazed that God would care so much for his creation that he would give up the splendor of heaven and live with us in the dirt. But he didn't stop there. God also showed us the meaning of service by serving, all the way to his death. Do you want to hear the best news of all? Jesus conquered death so that we could live with him in eternity. As we stand on the cusp of a new year with infinite possibility in front of us, let's begin by remembering that our worth does not reside in our job or what we can accomplish in the coming year. Our value is found in the price God paid to give us hope.
