Luke 21:17-19
You will be hated by all because of my name, but not a hair on your head will be destroyed. By your perseverance you will secure your lives.
Walking with Christ in the first century had a lot of unique challenges that, thank God, we don't have to deal with in modern America. We don't really have to worry about being put on trail and possibly executed because we follow Jesus. But I think our comfortable lives and the religious freedom we enjoy here can make it more difficult for us to make the small sacrifices. We may be less keen to speak up for the faith when we feel like it may have social consequences. It may be harder to resist when the boss asks us to do some task we find to be not entirely on the up-and-up. We shouldn't let our comfortable lives prevent us from the uncomfortable things we may be called to do in standing up for the Gospel. Lord, give us courage.
