Going to Contract

Thursday, December 6, 2018 • John Morris
You'd better get a good contract if you're going to build a house on sand.

Matthew 7:26

And everyone who listens to these words of mine but does not act on them will be like a fool who built his house on sand.

If you've ever purchased a house, you know the size of the contract.  It's huge, with regulations, wherefores and whatnots.  It's frankly too much for the average buyer to comprehend.  In the contract, one of the areas has to do with soil, sinkhole knowledge and understanding that the property is free from defect, or that the defects have been disclosed.  You rush through the contract to sign, trusting that everything is in place.

Today's parable from Jesus in Matthew's gospel is the story of the two foundations.  One house was built upon rock and withstood the storms.  The other was built on sand and when the storm came, the house collapsed.  When we put our trust in a bad contract, on poor construction, then the house will fall.  When we make bad investments, we lose money.  When we hang with the wrong crowd, put our time in bad media choices, worship football instead of going to church…then we are building our spiritual foundation on poor footing.  Our lives may collapse.  Taking it one step further, many people depend on you.  You influence your kids, your friends, your family, your coworkers.  Many put their trust in you.  Don't be a bad contractor for them…help them build a foundation by showing them the right way to live.  Then you will be an example of a house built on the rock…the rock of Jesus Christ.
