As the circumstances in our lives change so does our view of these passages...

Luke 21:3-4

He said, "I tell you truly, this poor widow put in more than all the rest; for those others have all made offerings from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has offered her whole livelihood."

Sometimes we can get stuck in our interpretation of a particular verse. But as the circumstances in our lives change so does our view of these passages. It's easy to look at this passage in Luke and assume Jesus is talking about supporting your church monetarily. Just a few years ago when I read this passage I was seeing it through the eyes of a person who was spiritually bankrupt. This time around I see this verse through the eyes of a man who doesn't have enough hours in each day. It's funny because at this point in my life I actually have a little money to spare for charity. But guess what? No one is asking me for money! Instead I am getting request after request for my time. It would be way easier for me to give a few dollars to the local charity right now. But God is calling me to give from my poverty, so the local charity wants my manual labor instead. How is God calling you to give from your poverty today?
