Happy Election Day!

We're almost to the finish line...

Philippians 2:5

Have among yourselves the same attitude that is also yours in Christ Jesus

Happy Election Day! We're almost to the finish line. It really is a shame that this right that people fought and died for has come to feel like a burden because of the type of arguments, name-calling and general vitriol that is spit during an election season. But what's the solution? If social media still exists in two years we're going to have the same experience, unless…

Unless we put ourselves in the place of the Philippians... In Paul's letter, he is warning those citizens about envy, rivalry and selfish ambition. But he gives a solution. When you interact with one another, don't just act LIKE Jesus, pretend like you're interacting WITH Jesus.

How would you treat the person holding the sign for the "other guy" if you imagined him as Jesus. How would you treat the Facebook friend who is opposed to the amendment you are passionate about if you imagined her as Jesus. I would offer words of love, try to give the benefit of the doubt, LISTEN…

If you're saying, Jesus would never campaign for that, you're missing the point. Christ is in each one of us. We want people to see Jesus in us, right? Then why not try to see Him in others and then act accordingly. We can't go wrong if we allow love, service and humility to lead. And you never know, maybe if enough of us do this next time will be different.
