The Thirsty Cat

Saturday, November 3, 2018 • Elle
When we say we thirst for something do we think about what it's like to be really thirsty?

R. My soul is thirsting for the living God.
Athirst is my soul for God, the living God.
When shall I go and behold the face of God?

Psalm 42:3

When we say we thirst for something do we think about what it's like to be really thirsty? Many of us make it a point to drink a cup of water between meals, and I tell my children to drink a cup of water before a meal to help digestion.

I watched a cat drink water out of a rain barrel and I was so fascinated I took pictures. Just to get a sip of that water, the cat jumped on the barrel and, as cats do, balanced on the ledge to sip.  What I also noticed is that there was a dish on the ground nearby with water in it but this cat evidently wanted the much fresher water that was in the rain barrel.  The cat's incredible balancing act required it to triangle its front legs with the back legs all on the lip of that barrel.  Honestly, if the cat fell in, we would have rescued it of course, but if no one were around and it fell in, I don't know if it could have gotten out by itself.

As we enjoy a cup of water today, let's remember to say a prayer of thanks for all the natural resources that we enjoy, and think about how easy it is to overlook these simple but vital gifts from God.
