The word of God is living and effective,
sharper than any two-edged sword,
penetrating even between soul and spirit,
joints and marrow,
Hebrews 4:12
I don't know what is between soul and spirit, but I do know about joints and marrow. I remember my Granny complained of joint pain whenever it rained. I did not believe her when I was young, until one day I researched it only to discover that there is a link between changes in the atmospheric (barometric) pressure and joint pain. I had an entirely different view on her comments after that. I remember realizing that it was my inability to believe her when she said she could tell when rain was coming, and how that did not change the reality that rain was indeed coming. It was a new awareness for me, that perhaps I wasn't as smart as I thought.. This scripture tells us the word of God is living and penetrates even the joints, yes into the very depths of our bones and our person.
We have an expression: "I can feel it in my bones, in the marrow" that we use when we have an apprehensive moment, or even an insight into a feeling. God's word is living and penetrates even the marrow of our insights and apprehensions, and we can rely on Him to grant us peace in our days, even when we are uncertain or unsure as to how to proceed. So between the joints and marrow, that is where we find that God truly is present in our lives, even if, like me when I did not believe my Granny's ability to forecast rain, we do not understand.
